36-48 Earl Grey Street/73-75 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh
The project and works carried out at Lothian Road formed part of an extensive external refurbishment which was instigated and coordinated by Dunedin Canmore as a result of falling debris and a building fabric requiring essential repairs. The works at Lothian Road were situated in the city centre and the building was used by numerous commercial properties on the ground floor and flatted properties throughout at the upper levels. The location of the building given the main traffic route as well as the highly pedestrianised area necessitated that all works were coordinated to take all the necessary steps to minimise disruption during our works. The works comprised of comprehensive chimney repairs/rebuilding, the stripping and reslating of all the slated slopes in Scotch slate, the complete replacement of all lead flashings and associated valley and wallhead gutters, as well as the replacement / overhauling of all cast iron rain water goods. The rear elevation was completely raked out and repointed as well as the replacement of an extensive amount of natural stone. The front elevations were completely dismantled and rebuilt whilst retaining the inner leaf and allowing continued occupation of the properties in new natural stone including all tooling and detailing to match the existing finishes. All new stonework was tied in to the existing structure utilising stainless steel fixing details as specified. Replacement sash and case windows as well as overhauling works and painter work on completion was carried out.
